Wayfarer House - Architecture Model Film

Volume up + press play

As we pick up our tools to make - we are reminded of American poet and environmental activist Gary Snyder, in his book ‘The practice of the wild’ he reminds us that 'Nature is not a place to visit, it is home’.

This month and continuing our exploration of the wild we thought we would share a short video of Wayfarer House.

In this short film we build the physical model in sequence. Exploring the assemblage of carefully chosen forms of habitation - revealing the magic of a home with purpose.

Wayfarer house emerges from the hillside to form a plinth. Living spaces confront the ocean while sleeping areas huddle behind an open hearth. The chimney could be seen as an anchor, embedding the home to the hillside, ready to confront the storms that come.

At Hyde + Hyde we long to create such simple and elemental relationships with nature in our work. In the hope of cultivating long-lasting memories and rich everyday experiences for those that live and work in the spaces we make.
