Concrete House

An expression of concrete minimalism, nestled away within the town of Penarth on the outskirts of Cardiff. A home surrounded by mature brick boundaries and the timeless presence of water, creating a luxurious inner world where the primary experience is light, nature and solitude.

With structural simplicity, the main living space opens completely to a private garden in the summer, during inclement weather, the pool becomes alive, an animated backdrop to life. A concrete roof volume hovers over the main living space, allowing for serene open plan spaces.

The project allowed us to explore private space and its relationship to the city… The outcome as the Architects Journal coined it – ‘a quiet monumentality’.
