The Bolder Lodges.

Among 170 hectares of untouched land with an unspoiled view – The Bolder Lodges hovers high above the Lysefjord, one of Norway's most spectacular fjords. The cabins are placed discreetly into the existing terrain between the tenaciously growing pine trees, where the surroundings are treated with respect and where everything that has been done, can be reversed – so that in the future it is possible to restore the entire site. Together with some of the very best architects, designers, photographers and artists, The Bolder have developed a very special concept in Norwegian tourism.

Karen LaMonte.

Since 1990, Karen LaMonte has created sublime and enigmatic works in glass, ceramic, bronze, iron, paper, and marble. Her works range from monotype prints to monumental stone sculptures, and explore themes of beauty, gender, identity, and the natural world. Her works reveal a classical approach, often depicting the female form in contrapposto or as an odalisque with sweeping drapery. Yet unlike nudes portrayed by canonical artists like Saint Gaudens, Manship and Lachaise, LaMonte’s forms are absent bodies described by hollow garments. Instead of taking away clothing, therefore, LaMonte removes the figure itself; asking us to think about how social norms and cultural contexts shape the body—and by extension, its role in society.

Paris Impasse.

Found via Present & Correct, Paris Impasse is a project by Belgian artist photographer Karin Borghouts. Paris has about 600 cul de sacs, cités, villas and squares: streets that end in a dead end. Cul-de-sacs. Within the Périphérique, Paris is the most densely populated city in Europe, with more than 20,000 inhabitants per square kilometre. The photographs, taken between 2011 and 2021, offer a glimpse of a part of Paris that usually goes unnoticed.

The Final Wooden House.

The Final Wooden House by Sou Fujimoto Architects, completed in 2006 in Kumamoto, Japan, is an extraordinary exercise in reimagining the very essence of wooden architecture.

Rejecting conventional distinctions between walls, floors, and ceilings, Fujimoto's design employs a single material in its most elemental form. By stacking 350mm square timber beams, he creates a spatial experience that challenges the preconceptions of architectural structure and function. This innovative approach renders the usual components of a building indistinguishable, leading to a fluid, multi-dimensional habitation.

Journal - La Tourette: Mirror to the Architect’s Soul

Our studio recently spent a few days at the Monastery of Sainte-Marie de La Tourette, just outside Lyon, France. Completed in 1960, this Dominican monastery stands as a high point of modernist architecture, embodying Le Corbusier's lifelong philosophy.
