Brew 22.

Speedskaters Cornelius Kersten and Ellia Smeding are funding their Olympic dream through coffee. As members of the GB speedskating team they have found gaining sponsorship not always easy and especially in a sport that is little known in the UK. So they decided to set up their own company, Brew ’22, as a way to fund their dream of reaching the Beijing Games.

Whilst travelling the pair found that good coffee was not always available. Whilst in Japan, they came across an innovative product - a single cup filter which enabled them to choose their own coffee bean, grind it and therefore travel with their own coffee. So they have sourced their own high quality beans and set up a webshop selling the unique single cup filters, bags of beans and special accessories in the hope that coffee lovers will find them, love their coffee and at the same time support them on our journey.

Home Stories.

This winter Vitra invite you into four homes - a restored townhouse belonging to actress Liane Forestieri; the eclectic apartment of art collector Emmanuel de Bayser; Deborah Choi‘s flat in a historic residential building; and finally the modern loft of artist Karin Sander. Each of these homes has a personal ambience. Yet they all reflect the same intention: combining form and function, beauty and purpose, with carefully selected pieces.

Daisugi.

From the name, you might have guessed that Daisugi came from Japan. It is a technique of bonsai that’s usually practiced in Kitayama, the North Mountains of Kyoto. This technique is so special not only because it is an ancient technique, but also because it is so rare. In Daisugi, the cedar tree is pruned heavily in a special way that it forms a giant bonsai that produce shoots of straight cedar branches growing upward. For common people, the result will appear like we are growing cedar trees on smaller cedar trees.

The Living Mountain.

As we pass the threshold of the winter solstice, the landscape in the Northern Hemisphere portrays a barren landscape so iconic for this time of year. These short days lead to long evenings and after cold walks on open hills, we long for open fires. The warmth and companionship of a great book feels essential to feed the soul and push back the darkness outside the walls of our homes.
