Studio Ghibli.

Studio Ghibli has uploaded hundreds of high-resolution still images from almost all of their films, including all of the major ones. The images are labeled “solely for personal use by individual fans to further enjoy Studio Ghibli films” and people are urged to “please feel free to use the images within the bounds of common sense”.

How to use AI in Architecture?

Love it or hate it, new technologies have been increasingly present in the creative space, and they seem to be here to stay. Renowned studios such as Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) have been working on their own ways of using AI in architecture through bespoke software and a dedicated collaboration with NVIDIA; while social media is bursting with AI-generated images and visions, allowing everyone to have a go. At the same time, it's a topic which divides deeply, throwing up challenges concerning authenticity of voice, plagiarism, responsibility and ethics (can a machine ever do what a human brain – and heart – can?). As exciting as having a new design assistant with the knowledge of the entire World Wide Web at their virtual fingertips may sound, potential pitfalls abound and learning how to work in this brave new world is paramount in moving forward. Regulations and guidelines should be coming into play, too.

Architect Tim Fu, an early AI adopter who regularly uses these new technologies in his practice, offers his advice over on Wallpaper*.

The Barbican Centre.

Designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon and completed in 1982, the Barbican remains one of the boldest essays in Brutalist architecture. Here, mass and gravity are not contradictions to beauty, but the very materials of it. Elevated walkways weave among residential towers, secret gardens spill from concrete planters, and lakeside terraces offer brief moments of stillness. It is a city within a city — an urban labyrinth designed to be walked, inhabited, and slowly discovered.

Interior Design - Detail in Oxford.

At our Quatrefoil House project in Oxford, we drew inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci—part of the many and diverse research threads we like to pull. Here, within the interiors the principles of shadow and shade were placed above material finish. Shadow became our chosen language, shaping a soothing and luxurious interior atmosphere.
