01. Quote

“The world is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper”

Design Can.

An industry that fails to reflect the people it serves will quickly become irrelevant. How can we meet the needs of users with a blinkered perspective? How can we inspire the next generation of designers without role models to represent them? How can design continue to be a source of world-changing ideas?

Design Can are calling on designers, curators, editors, writers, filmmakers, event organisers – everyone who influences the design industry – to be allies. It’s time for the design community to confront its prejudices and eliminate discrimination.

Mindful Movement.

It’s easy to overdo it when it comes to exercise and movement. We generally stress ourselves with work, social engagements, diet and lack of sleep, so piling on a rigorous workout has the potential, in some cases, to do more harm than good. Into The Well founder Ryan Willms spent a disproportionate amount of time doing rather than being, and it’s taken him a while to fully integrate mediation and recovery into his daily exercise practices. Once he took the leap, however, it brought clarity and energy to his life.

04. Object

Gris.

Gris is a progressive alternative to conventional paint and introduces a new concept of interior coatings founded by make up artist Liz Michael. Inspired by art and architecture, rooted in a respect for nature, Gris presents an exclusive collection of monochrome shades. A Nordic aesthetic of cloudy whites, architectural greys and deep smokey, inky colours evoking a Japanese mood. The paints are free of synthetic binders, solvents and acrylics and coloured with earth oxide pigments. The depth of colour achievable with earth oxides and the special bonding process of mineral paint creates an entirely unique finish which is UV stable and doesn’t fade.

The Best Christmas Wrapping Paper.

Nick Sellek is a freelance Graphic Designer, Artist and Model-Maker, who has developed 'Window.' after many years making cards for friends and family. All the designs have been developed from a love of inviting spaces and intriguing structures, with a utilitarian and horticultural angle.

The Christmas cards, advent calendars and wrapping paper were developed over a few years from Nick's love of Christmas. Both contemporary and traditional, they combine stark cityscapes, architecture and interiors with the magical warmth of Christmas.

Konfekt, which launches in December, is Monocle’s new stylish sister publication. A quarterly magazine that celebrates the craft of print and the art of storytelling by gaining access to the cosiest homes, canniest ateliers, restaurants and beautiful hotels in Mitteleuropa and beyond. There’s also plenty of reporting of substance to explore alongside essays, ideas and inspiration.
