Wide Angle View.

Through the lens of the pages of the Architectural Review magazine, Wide-Angle View is an exhibition on the Manplan series, a ground-breaking exploration of architecture’s impact on society. This exhibition of over 70 original photographs, some that have never been seen before, offers a unique insights on society in the late 1960s. Manplan was a visual manifesto and photographic revolution in print. In 1969, The Architectural Review dedicated the pages of their journal to analyse the state of architecture and urban planning in Britain. The Manplan series was revolutionary both in ambition and in execution. It was radical in its tone and style, with photography at its centre to critique the impact of architecture on society.

Yugawara Soyu Books and Retreat.

Books, baths, contemporary design and nature: this is the simple formula behind a minimalist new hot spring escape just a few hours by train from Tokyo. Yugawara Soyu Books and Retreat is surrounded by forests in Yugawara, a small town in Kanagawa Prefecture famed for its onsen heritage. The complex is made up of Genkan Terrace — a renovated community space with a cafe, co-working space and hot spring footbath — plus, deep among the trees, Soyu Terrace, a network of minimalist black wood pavilions with hot spring onsen baths, a restaurant and a library.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Hole & Corner has produced a 316-page book featuring some of the makers, entrepreneurs, artisans, crafters and grafters whose stories they have told since we launched in 2013. It’s been a challenge keeping Hole & Corner afloat at times over the past decade but, as an independent publisher, we think it’s more important than ever to tell the stories of dedication from our rich and diverse community.
