sanctuary

2002

A metaphysical sanctuary at Stonehenge for the pilgrim to rest and be among thoughts. A contemplation space which would be used by the druid order at important ceremonial dates throughout the year, such as the summer solstice and various cycles of the moon.

Set deep within the Wiltshire landscape reinforced by the eternal movement of water. The static tension of half a metre thick concrete walls creates a calm and solitary space to be among nature.

The building was placed a distance away from the stones in its own setting connected only in relationship through geometry.
