chapel
wales 2002
This is a prototype of a well known archetype found in Wales - the Chapel.
The Chapel gets its name from the local cove nearby and can be found among tundra sea and wild horses.
The building is sacred, not only with regards to the ideal, but to the reality of the landscape and the elements. A building that through its tectonic and stereotomic form is conditioned to its environment.
The diagram formed at the point of entry is inspired by the historical and spiritual significance of the golden section. The geometry spirals inwards towards the point of infinity; at this locus a cross is placed framed by the backdrop of the Atlantic.
