the pines development
swansea 2008
In 2008 the practice was approached to regenerate 2 acres of brown field land on the outskirts of Swansea, to create much needed new homes within the area.
The challenge was to avoid the monotony of low-rise mass housing of past generations and instead lay the foundations for a new vibrant community.
The site is located in a densely populated area on the outskirts of Swansea. Mature chestnuts Pines and Oaks surround the site and create a secluded private realm.
The design is sympathetic to the surrounding historic terraces and takes inspiration from their traditional scale and form. The main units to the street frontage echo the proportion and character of this familiar domestic architecture.
The design in no way attempts to replicate but rather converse with the existing built fabric.
