Hyde + Hyde have been appointed to design a new home for a young family in Penarth a Victorian seaside town in South Wales.

The practice has been approached to reconfigure and extend a beautiful traditional barn within Brandy Cove on the Gower Peninsula.

Good progress is also being made on our low carbon home for a family in Southgate. Our blog will be updated with more information shortly.

We recently submitted a planning application for a very special contemporary home up high within the Pembrokeshire National Park. The project looks at refurbishing a series of vernacular outbuildings around a courtyard.

A new modern home exploring the metaphor of its site is introduced, along with a low profile pool house. Closing the courtyard to create an inner world sheltered from the exposure of the Irish Sea.

The practice also submitted a planning application for an intimate garden addition and house refurbishment in a coastal location on the Gower Peninsula.

Hyde + Hyde have been invited to present a lecture at the University of Portsmouth, covering critical aspects of the studio's award wining work to date. This will form part of the Universities annual Architecture School Society lecture series in 2012.

Hyde + Hyde have recently submitted a planning application for 18 apartments in the centre of Swansea. The practice is working closely with a social housing landlord committed to developing a high standard of quality and design for its residences and tenants.

Hyde + Hyde brand identity comes in first place at the Cardiff Design Festival.

The practice has also been appointed to refurbish and extend a detached property in a prominent location in Southgate Gower.

The practice has been invited to submit two projects nominated for RIBA awards, to be held at the 'Building Wales' exhibition in Cardiff.

We also submitted a design proposal for this year's Reflecting Wales Competition an exhibition to uncover the remnant sites of Cardiff and explore how they can be regenerated through urban intervention.

The Practice presented proposals for 4 individual code 4 contemporary houses within a conservation area to the Design Commission for Wales in Cardiff.

Planning permission has been received for a new contemporary, low carbon refurbishment & extension among the rolling hills of Carmarthenshire. The design includes a refurbished farmhouse, new timber frame garden room along with a collection of refurbished outbuildings.

The practice has recently updated its drawing software allowing it to begin implementation of Building Information Modelling or BIM. More information regarding this can be found here.

David Schnabel joins Hyde + Hyde. David is currently an undergraduate student at the Welsh School of Architecture and joins us for this year's Summer Placement.

4 high quality courtyard houses within a conservation area have been submitted to planning.

One of our houses appeared in The Daily Telegraph property section, promoting the Homebuilding and renovating awards 2011.

Planning permission was also obtained for a modern house renovation and addition for a couple relocating from North England to South Wales.

Construction begins on a new contemporary addition to an existing home in Radyr, a quiet suburb of Cardiff.

The practice was delighted to receive a design excellence award from the local Building Control Authority, for an Orangery Project recently completed, in Killay, Swansea on the edge of the Gower Peninsula.

The practice's first zero net energy home located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, receives planning.

This low carbon dwelling will be built from insulated concrete forms, with a high thermal mass effect, high levels of continuous EPS insulation, and greatly reduced air infiltration. All part of an integrated passive architectural solution.

The  house on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales has recently laid claim to a series of nominations and awards including:

Hyde + Hyde Architects are proud to have received the 'Plaque of Merit' award at this year's National Eisteddfod of Wales for Pennard House. The practice attended the creative arts exhibition 'Y Lle Celf' In Ebbw Vale where an exhibition showcasing our work is being displayed.

The aim of the award is to draw attention to the importance of architecture in the nation's culture and to honour architects achieving the highest design standards.

We will be giving up an hour of our time for a design consultation. In exchange, the homeowner makes a suggested minimum donation of £40 to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity.

Hyde + Hyde completes 'Idle Rocks', a modern contemporary dwelling located in Langland Bay. A sensitive conservation area with spectacular views over the bay and out towards the Bristol Channel.

The existing house had been neglected for many years. Its new owners had approached us to revitalize and breathe life into the existing structure. Photography coming soon.

Hyde + Hyde have recently returned from a study tour of Dublin, visiting many of the city's urban developments.

The practice is currently responding to a call for entries for this year's Reflecting Wales 09.09. The exhibition is an initiative that aims to highlight nine young / emerging architectural designers who exhibit the potential to make a significant impact on design standards in our homes, working environments - in the decades to come.

As part of the Le Corbusier season, the RIBA presented an engaging programme of events providing a wider perspective on Le Corbusier (1887-1965) with a series of exhibitions, talks, debates and workshops at the RIBA, V&A and Barbican. Hyde + Hyde visited both the interior reconstruction of the cabanon at the RIBA; built in 1952 and 'The Art of Architecture' exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery, London.

In other news: The Pines mixed use development is submitted to planning. The development proposes a mixed tenure of public and private residential and retail units focused around a vibrant central courtyard.

December saw the launch of the new Hyde + Hyde website. Created in close collaboration with Cardiff based calm design. Over the coming months the site will be expanded to show more detail covering the diverse range of current projects in and around south Wales from concept through to site progress.

Hyde objects
Fabrication of a minimalist bench prototype is now under way. Working in collaboration with a team of experienced carpenters and steel fabricators across the UK to develop a series of unique, high quality contemporary objects.

The practice has been approached to design new and innovative Student Housing accommodation in the crescent sweep of Swansea Bay; just a stone's throw from the beach. The surrounding colours and patterns of the historic promenade along the seafront have been allowed to intimately influence the design proposal.

Pinewood refurbishment starts on site. This contemporary conversion will transform a redundant basement space into a vibrant living space for our client's family, with panoramic views to Devon.

Replacement Orangery starts on site. A contemporary reinvention of this Victorian architectural typology will provide uninterrupted views of the Clyne Valley and coastline, by utilising a bespoke frameless glazing system.

Responding to an open invite to creative artists in the built environment in Wales, Hyde + Hyde submitted work for the 'Reflecting Wales Exhibition' held at the prestigious Welsh Assembly, Cardiff Bay.

Hyde + Hyde were among a select group of architects and artists accepted by an independent judging panel for exhibition, out of 67 national and international submissions.

Hyde + Hyde recently returned from a study and research trip to Venice and the north eastern Veneto region, visiting the venice biennale and important master works such as the Brion Tomb, an obsessively beautiful work by architect Carlo Scarpa.

With an increasing workload, early 2008 saw the re-launch of Hyde + Hyde architects, taking up residence in a 1900's historic maritime
building in the heart of the city and within a stone's throw of the
bay.

The practice has also been appointed to produce designs for a 3m mixed use development on a brown field site in South Wales.
