Hyde + Hyde Architects are proud to have received the 'Plaque of Merit' award at this year's National Eisteddfod of Wales for Pennard House. The practice attended the creative arts exhibition 'Y Lle Celf' In Ebbw Vale where an exhibition showcasing our work is being displayed.
The aim of the award is to draw attention to the importance of architecture in the nation's culture and to honour architects achieving the highest design standards.

The practice has also been commissioned to design a 'zero net energy' home on a dramatic cliff top setting on the Gower Peninsula, South Wales.
Hyde + Hyde are taking part in this year's RIBA Architect in the House. An innovative scheme that matches homeowners with a RIBA chartered architect. We will be giving up an hour of our time for a design consultation. In exchange, the homeowner makes a suggested minimum donation of £40 to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity.

Working closely with our client, the bespoke design utilises passive environmental strategies to reduce carbon emissions and formally through its poetics responds to the nature of the unique quarry site.
Hyde + Hyde completes 'Idle Rocks', a modern contemporary dwelling located in Langland Bay. A sensitive conservation area with spectacular views over the bay and out towards the Bristol Channel.

The practice is currently responding to a call for entries for this year's Reflecting Wales 09.09. The exhibition is an initiative that aims to highlight nine young / emerging architectural designers who exhibit the potential to make a significant impact on design standards in our homes, working environments - in the decades to come.

Pinewood refurbishment nears completion...
Hyde + Hyde are putting the finishing touches to a unique high quality contemporary refurbishment to a 4 storey town house. The project is currently being photographed and will be published soon. Further information can be found here.
Hyde + Hyde have been commissioned to design a unique contemporary home for a successful photographer and his family relocating from London to Cardiff. The dramatic site is set within an ancient quarry, located within a historical welsh mountain landscape.
As part of the Le Corbusier season, the RIBA presented an engaging programme of events providing a wider perspective on Le Corbusier (1887-1965) with a series of exhibitions, talks, debates and workshops at the RIBA, V&A and Barbican. Hyde + Hyde visited both the interior reconstruction of the cabanon at the RIBA; built in 1952 and 'The Art of Architecture' exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery, London.
In other news: The Pines mixed use development is submitted to planning. The development proposes a mixed tenure of public and private residential and retail units focused around a vibrant central courtyard.
Moving forward on the success of previous high quality houses such as Pennard House and Colts Hill House, Hyde + Hyde have been approached to design a high quality sustainable residential dwelling in Mumbles with panoramic views over the bay and lighthouse.
In other news Hyde + Hyde attended the annual RIBA council reception at Senedd in Cardiff Bay.

design workshop at the Royal Society of Architects Wales, Spring School
at Portmeirion. Titled, Metaphor + Meaning; Architecture in Context.
The workshop will outline the studio's unique approach to design and context within a welsh landscape.
Colts Hill House obtains planning permission.
Designed by Hyde + Hyde architects, this high quality carefully crafted contemporary home, endorsed by the Design Commission for Wales; integrates sustainable technologies and passive environmental strategies.
December saw the launch of the new Hyde + Hyde website. Created in close collaboration with Cardiff based calm design. Over the coming months the site will be expanded to show more detail covering the diverse range of current projects in and around south Wales from concept through to site progress.
Hyde objects
Fabrication of a minimalist bench prototype is now under way. Working in collaboration with a team of experienced carpenters and steel fabricators across the UK to develop a series of unique, high quality contemporary objects.
The practice has been approached to design new and innovative Student Housing accommodation in the crescent sweep of Swansea Bay; just a stone's throw from the beach. The surrounding colours and patterns of the historic promenade along the seafront have been allowed to intimately influence the design proposal.
Pinewood refurbishment starts on site. This contemporary conversion will transform a redundant basement space into a vibrant living space for our client's family, with panoramic views to Devon.
Replacement Orangery starts on site. A contemporary reinvention of this Victorian architectural typology will provide uninterrupted views of the Clyne Valley and coastline, by utilising a bespoke frameless glazing system.
Responding to an open invite to creative artists in the built environment in Wales, Hyde + Hyde submitted work for the 'Reflecting Wales Exhibition' held at the prestigious Welsh Assembly, Cardiff Bay.
Hyde + Hyde were among a select group of architects and artists accepted by an independent judging panel for exhibition, out of 67 national and international submissions.

Hyde + Hyde recently returned from a study and research trip to Venice and the north eastern Veneto region, visiting the venice biennale and important master works such as the Brion Tomb, an obsessively beautiful work by architect Carlo Scarpa.
Hyde + Hyde are selected to work on a landmark community centre
project; following a competitive selection process. Proposals will now
be developed to assist local Carmarthenshire community groups achieve a
sustainable long term design solution.
Hyde + Hyde presented design proposals to the Design Commission for
Wales at Cardiff Bay waterfront. The practice's most recent sustainable one
off private residence. Design endorsement for Colts Hill house from the
design commission of Wales was welcomed and adds further support to the
practice's commitment to providing exceptionally high quality design
proposals.
Hyde + Hyde architects celebrated the opening of a new exhibition;
'marking space' at Swansea's Mission Gallery in Gloucester Place in the
emerging Maritime Quarter. The exhibition contains models and drawings
of recent works concentrating on 2 contemporary houses; the result of 2
years rigorous research and design development.
Hyde + Hyde hold official launch party to celebrate their move into new
office space in the centre of Swansea. Clients and consultants enjoyed
an evening of champagne and an opportunity to see examples of the
practices current work on display.
Dan Belton joins Hyde + Hyde, Dan relocates from a contemporary
practice in Hampstead Heath, to a new lifestyle by the Ocean. Dan brings with him a variety of experience from working for practices such as Sheppard Robson and will be a welcome addition to the team.
Hyde + Hyde present at design training seminar. Swansea Planning
Department invite Hyde + Hyde architects to present a selection of
their work to 30 case officers and representatives from the Design
Commission of Wales.
Design work by Hyde + Hyde architects has been included in a new book
by Lorraine Farrelly, 'Basics Architecture: Representational Drawing
Techniques'. The new book is an overview of techniques used by leading

produce a sensitive design proposal for a unique 1930's modern house in
Cardiff; to include a new contemporary addition with dance room.
With an increasing workload, early 2008 saw the re-launch of Hyde + Hyde architects, taking up residence in a 1900's historic maritime
building in the heart of the city and within a stone's throw of the
bay.
